The unthinkable has happened: Nigeria's sovereignty is under direct threat from the United States. US military surveillance aircraft now conduct intelligence flights over Nigerian territory, tracking kidnapped Americans and monitoring militant groups. President Trump has publicly threatened military intervention if the Nigerian government fails to stop violence against Christians.
This is not diplomacy. This is a prelude to invasion.
How did we get here? The answer is simple: government incompetence. When a nation cannot protect its own citizens—when schoolchildren are abducted with impunity, when worshippers are slaughtered in their churches, when farmers cannot access their fields—it invites external actors to fill the vacuum.
The NLM warned that this administration's security failures would have catastrophic consequences. Now, those consequences are here. Nigeria has been added to the US travel ban list and designated as a violator of religious freedom. Our sovereignty, hard-won through decades of struggle, is being compromised because this government cannot perform its most basic function.
The NLM demands: - Immediate action to address the security crisis that has invited foreign intervention. - A clear statement from the Presidency on how it will defend Nigerian sovereignty. - The resignation of security chiefs who have failed to prevent this national humiliation.
We will not allow Nigeria to become another Libya or Iraq. The government must act now, or step aside for those who can defend our nation's independence.
